Our Pastor Emeritus

On June 15, 1969 Pastor Calvin J. Abraham was installed as the fourth pastor in the history of Bella Vista Missionary Baptist Chruch. Thirty-four years later he is deeply ensconced in the lives of Bella Vistians and has truly made inroads in developing the ultimate, “Church That Cares”.

A native Houstonian, Pastor Abraham is a proud graduate of Phylllis Wheatly Sr. High School. He attended Texas Southern University where he was greatly inspired by Dr. Thomas Freeman. After moving to New York City, New York he attended Nassau College in Garden City and the renowned Manhattan Bible Institute. He holds a Certificate in Church History and Bible Doctrine from MBI. Pastor Abraham was licensed and ordained by Galiliee Missionary Baptist Church led by Rev. R.M. Shepherd.

Under Pastor Abraham’s leadership Bella Vista fellowshipped in excess of 5,000 members. There were more than 400 members enrolled and in regular attendance in Sunday School. Bella Vista’s 100 club boasted over 100 active members participating in weekly bible study and prayer meeting. As a spiritual father, there were some 29 men called sons of Bella Vista MBC. Seven of them are pastors of churches in Texas and California.

Pastor Abraham is a humble man, preaching and teaching an uncomprising gospel. He developed the Resource for Christian Living Media Ministry and, since its inception, it has continued to be a catalyst for saving lives. First on KYOK 1590, then KWWJ 1360, Pastor Abraham could be heard weekly on KWWJ 1360 am at 7am on Sunday mornings.

Psalms 119:130 “The entrance of Thy word giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple,” is his favorite scripture. He has made the study of the scriptures the pillar for growth in Bella Vista.
